cac logoThe Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) is an advisory group that is directed by and composed of former recipients (or family members of former recipients) of Common Ground's services.  The CAC serves to bring the voices of those served to the Common Ground administration in order to make positive change and establish and follow best practices.  Through this dialogue with Common Ground staff and administration, the CAC is directly involved in decisions regarding the design, implementation and evaluation of the agency's mental health and crisis intervention services.  The CAC's objectives include, but are not limited to the following functions:

  • Provide a consumer voice in determining needs, concerns and priorities in policy, service provision, service delivery and accessibility.
  • Ensure that the mental health issues of a diverse community are represented, especially minority groups.
  • Ensure that mental health services are culturally sensitive and competent.
  • Help identify issues, problems or gaps with provided services
  • Make recommendations to resolve problems or to seize opportunities to improve processes.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of corrective action plans.
  • Ensure consumer and family participation at all levels of operation and service delivery.
  • Promote community activities related to consumer empowerment and self-determination.
  • Stay current and informed about mental health issues affecting the community.

Guiding Principles:

  • Being person centered and empowering consumers.
  • Adopting a recovery approach to building positive futures.
  • Promoting positive images and reducing stigma and discrimination.
  • Enhancing best practice and building understanding of effective approaches to consumer participation.
  • Building the capacity of our organization, consumers and services.
  • Promoting professionalism and continuous improvement in our work.

The CAC is always looking for new members.  The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Resource and Crisis Center located at 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., bldg. 32E in Pontiac, MI.  All meetings are open to the public.  Those interested in joining, seek more information or  have a consumer related issue for the CAC to investigate or explore, contact Sean Sylvester at 248-451-3789 or email him at
