Tony Rothschild remembered as pioneer in mental health advocacy

When Tony Rothschild was 21 years old, his father first attempted suicide.

After his dad was released from the hospital, he sat his family down and said simply, “I want to tell you all – I did something really stupid, and I’m not going to do it again.”

“And that was the whole conversation,” Rothschild said during a Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers presentation.

Sixteen years later, Rothschild got the phone call that his father had completed suicide. After his dad’s death, Rothschild made it his mission to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness to prevent others from taking their lives.
