DESCRIPTION:July 6 – 29\, 2024. \nVolunteer training is approximate 36-hours and takes place on Thursday evenings and Saturdays. In addition\, 10-hours of observation is required.\nRequirements to be considered for volunteer training: Individuals must be at least 18-years of age\, high school/GED graduate\, pass a screening and background check\, be open-minded\, non-judgmental and ready to learn. No prior crisis training necessary but welcomed. \nContact Brooke Seagraves for more information: Brooke: bseagraves@cghelps.org or fill out a short volunteer form: Volunteer Form \nAdditional trainings will be offered this fall and winter. \nVOLUNTEER POSITIONS:\nCrisis Support Liaison: This position consists of helping individuals waiting to be served in the front lobby of the Resource & Crisis Center in Pontiac\, MI. These duties may consist of providing crisis intervention to individuals seeking services from Common Ground\, providing crisis intervention for loved ones who have accompanied persons served\, assistance with paperwork needed for CG services\, as well as providing care by serving individuals snacks and drinks in the lobby. \nVAP Volunteer Advocate: Options for this position include providing emotional support and appropriate referrals to individuals with victimizations\, assistance with criminal justice system and provide court accompaniment\, assisting victims in person at community sites (hospitals\, police stations)\, provide assistance with Personal Protection Orders\, provide assistance with applying for Crime Victim Compensation\, and provide referrals to other needed community resources and supports. \nVAP Personal Protection Order Specialist: This position involves assisting individuals while filling PPO paperwork at the courthouse. Schedule is flexible within the hours of 8am-4pm\, Monday-Friday. Volunteers are required to stay until the PPO has been submitted. \nCommunity Outreach: Participating in various events throughout the community to raise awareness about mental health\, suicide prevention\, as well as services Common Ground provides for the community. This includes assisting at Common Ground events (the Birmingham Art Fair\, Survivors of Suicide Loss Day\, etc.) and/or setting up a table at outreach events as a CG representative.

DESCRIPTION:The Ride 2 End Suicide is an annual bicycle ride fundraiser to raise money for suicide awareness\, prevention\, education and counseling hosted by Terri and Lou – two very dedicated and passionate volunteers.\nThis ride brings together survivors of suicide\, their families\, friends\, supporters and local biking enthusiasts. The Ride is an opportunity to move for something that matters –whether that’s for health\, recovery\, or in memory of a loved one with the goal to raise money for life saving suicide prevention programs. \nThe event will feature a kick-off\, then riders will ride along a 20 mile route (or as far as you wish) from the Capital Banquet Center in Washington\, MI to and around Stony Creek Metropark bike loop and back with crossing guards and water stops for your safety and comfort. Virtual participants can ride at your own chosen location and for any distance you wish. \nAll riders and supporters are invited to join the luncheon at 11:30 am. We have two options for this year’s event.\n  \nVIRTUAL OPTION: \nWe have a VIRTUAL registration option\, so that you can ride along with us\, and support the 2021 Ride from home\, in your neighborhood\, or on your favorite stretch of trail! This year\, many people are experiencing mental distress\, and your support is needed more than ever.  When you choose the VIRTUAL Ride\, you will still receive the event shirt\, and you can also create your own Virtual Team to Ride! \nIN PERSON OPTION: \nIf you choose the in person option\, you will enjoy a ride on the beautiful Macomb Orchard Trail\, and support suicide prevention awareness and crisis intervention in our community. \nThe Ride will start and end at Capital Banquet Center\, located on 31 Mile Road in Washington\, MI.
