Heavenly Day Spa, which recently moved from Independence Township to Auburn Hills, is hosting its sixth annual Facials Against Suicide from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
Owner Jessica Keesling, 27, said she started this fundraiser as a coping mechanism.

“My dad, my grandpa and my uncle have all taken their own lives. It didn’t make sense, I don’t know why and I’m never going to,” the Waterford woman said. “All I know is … it’s a sickness. It’s not them choosing to leave you; it’s them choosing to leave this pain.”, my grandpa and my uncle have all taken their own lives. Keesling’s world was turned upside down by the loss of three of the most important men in her life. She decided she wanted to take what she had been through and turn it into purpose.
“I’ve realized, over the years, that we don’t talk about (suicide) as much as we should. … So I wanted to find something that I’m passionate about and that I love and be able to give back to suicide awareness.”
At the Facials Against Suicide event, Keesling and her team are offering facials for $20, hydrafacials for $75, brow/lip wax for $5, parrafin hand dip for $5 and one hour massages for $75 with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Common Ground.
“Common Ground is the only crisis center in Michigan. They not only help (people) with mental illness, but also substance abuse, human sex trafficking and domestic violence,” Keesling said.
There will also be hors d’oeuvres and raffles, and trained experts from Common Ground will be on hand for anyone in need of resources or who just wants to talk to someone.
At 7 p.m., there will be a candlelight vigil in memory of those who have lost their lives to suicide. There will be a memory wall, and people can email pictures of their loved ones who have died to heavenlydayspa@hotmail.com by Feb. 15. At 8 p.m., there will be an after party at Hoops Grill and Sports Bar, 2705 Lapeer Road, Auburn Hills.
“We need to make people comfortable with coming forward. … (Mental illness) is more common than what you think,” said Keesling. “I (want to) take what I know and share it with others and hope they never go through this.”
